Welcome Back, Dog Lovers and Happy Independence Day America!

We’re so glad you’re here for Week 2 of our “Should I Get a Dog (and Will I Survive It)?” series! Last week, we covered adopting vs. shopping and how to spot a breeder who isn’t just selling fluff. This week, we’re diving into one of the biggest questions of all: How do you actually choose the right dog for your family and lifestyle?

Sure, love at first sight is real—but so is bringing home a high-energy herding dog when you live in a fourth-floor walk-up and think “cardio” means finding the remote. Before you get swept up in the tail-wagging cuteness, we’re here to help you match your future pup to your real life (and maybe your tolerance for fur on literally everything you own). Let’s find your perfect doggy fit—no awkward roommate situations required.

We get it. You walk past a dog adoption event, lock eyes with a furry little goofball, and suddenly you're in a full-blown rom-com montage—complete with dreamy music, matching sweaters, and visions of holiday cards that say “Season’s Treatings.” But slow your roll, Cupid—choosing the right dog is about more than just cuteness and chemistry.

Bringing a dog into your life is a 10- to 18-year commitment with someone who thinks socks are chew toys and personal space is a myth. And spoiler alert: they don’t come with an “off” switch. Between vet bills, grooming, food, boarding, toys, and the occasional destroyed couch cushion, dog ownership is basically a subscription service—with no cancellation option. So let’s get honest and make sure you're falling in love for the right reasons.

Let’s talk doggy compatibility.
